Episode 01: Tulum Fashion
Surviving Tulum’s Hottest Days in Style - June 2024
As someone who values both comfort and style, I found myself in quite the fashion predicament when I landed in Tulum during its hottest time of the year—completely unaware! Let’s just say my usual go-to outfits suddenly seemed way too heavy for the blazing sun and humidity. But if there's one thing I’ve learned, it’s how to adapt and still look fabulous, no matter the weather.
The key was finding a balance between practicality and style. I wasn’t on the catwalk, so I needed to keep things real. Think light fabrics, breathable silhouettes, and minimal fuss. Cotton, linen, and airy dresses became my best friends. Flowing dresses in soft pastels and neutral tones not only kept me cool but looked effortlessly chic.
Footwear was another challenge. Strappy sandals are cute, but not when your feet are sweating! So I switched to thong sandals—still fashionable, but way more practical for long walks on the beach and exploring the local shops. I stayed away from anything too constricting or heavy because, trust me, no outfit is worth feeling like you're melting under the Mexican sun.
Accessorizing was kept to a minimum, too. The last thing I wanted was heavy jewelry sticking to my skin. Instead, a wide-brimmed hat and oversized sunglasses became my go-to accessories, not only adding a bit of flair but also offering some much-needed sun protection.
Fashion isn’t always about making a statement with every piece you wear. Sometimes it’s about adapting to your environment and making choices that work for you—and yes, that can still be stylish. Tulum’s heat may have limited my options, but it didn’t limit my ability to look good while staying comfortable. After all, true style is all about making it work, no matter the circumstances.
